Wanted to get this up tonight, but I am feeling nasty sick, so no run-downs on the squares. Will edit tomorrow, possibly.

I'll eta my card tomorrow, when I feel like writing everything up and loading pics, lol.

SO, GUESS WHO FORGOT ABOUT THIS. Anyway. My card:

Not to shabby, says I! I missed a few things I really wanted to hit, but more about that later. First, the squares I did hit:

Learn Embroidery )

Three Squares in a Week )

Read Comics )

Work on Vampire Thing )

Work on Big Thing )

Finish Magikarp Bag )

Make a Sales Post )

Learn New Stitches )

Do a Craft )

That's it for what I did get done. As for what I didn't, man, Idek. The Draw Otters Weekly and 100 Words Weekly squares in particular are haunting me. I set off to a good start, but lost track of myself and ended up in a despair spiral of sorts. I'll be more mindful of that pitfall in the future. Meanwhile, the Practice Spanish daily square is honestly making me laugh. You may recall, I forgot to include that square last month and thus didn't get credit even though I did practice daily. This month, I was careful to remember to include the square and then completely forgot to practice. Like, all month. I baffle myself sometimes. I was going to talk briefly about another couple squares as well, but found myself rambling. Those may get spun into their own posts or I may forgot to do that. Guess we'll find out. For now, it's a wrap :D

And here's my card for October! Now that I put it that way, I'm disappointed in myself for not included more Halloween-related items. By which I mean any Halloween-related items. Oops. Ah, well, I can steer a few of these down that route.

Man, here I said I'd be posting more and then I didn't come back for a week. In my defense, Hal has been having bluescreen issues which make posting-- or even using him, honestly-- incredibly annoying. Just the same, here's me resolving to be around more coming up. But, more immediately importantly, here's me happy with my latest bingo :D

Do a Craft: Scraping by on this one, I admit. I finally sat down to my Magikarp bag again, this time with a more open mind. I realized that where I went wrong last time I tried basically amounted to thinking I knew things it turned out I didn't. Like, for example, how to read my pattern. And also the two major stitches involved in said pattern. Once I broke down and looked stuff up-- as I should've from the beginning, honestly-- things went much more smoothly. I've got the body completed and will soon be working on the details that, y'know, make it a Magikarp. I decided to mark this square because, while I don't quite deserve the Make a Magikarp Bag square yet, I do think it's fair to get a point for getting to where I am.

Learn Three New Stitches: I feel like I probably had embellishments in mind when I originally conceived this square, but that ended up only being a third of what I did to mark it. I'd have to check my instructions for the proper name, but I learned to crochet a cute little flower embellishment. The other stitches I learned are the-- honestly very basic-- single crochet and half double crochet. I also relearned the magic circle, which is also cool!

Work on Big Thing: I didn't get much done here, tbh, and certainly nothing presentable. But I did untangle a snarl that had been vexing me, so I'm pleased.

So, yeah, that's it for the month! There are a number of squares I'm disappointed to have missed, of course-- chiefly, the Draw Otters Each Week square. I shot myself in the foot with that one, moving all my stuff around and throwing off my sense of time passage with vacation. Fingers crossed for next month. I'll be rethinking 100 Words Every Three Days, as I really wanted that one but the time frame ended up messing with me somehow, haha. I also thought I had a square for daily Spanish practice, which I actually honored, but apparently not... Nonetheless, I'm happy with what I got done :)

Whew, so, I've not posted in a while, huh? Missed my update last week and everything, oops. I've just felt lacking energy in that way that makes journal posting difficult lately. No one particular reason just a bunch of little things. However! I'm feeling more energized and looking forward to posting more regularly. Starting here, natch. So, let's get to it!

Write a New Ship )

Try a New Recipe )

Write Drabbles )

Three Squares in a Week )

So, that's all for now. Not much to show for two weeks, perhaps, but there's been other stuff going on in between. I've been working on those time-sensitive squares, of course, and practicing my Spanish. I bought a new crochet hook and will hopefully have something to show for at least two related squares by the end of the month. I might end up letting slide a few I really wanted this month, judging by how I'm going at them so far, but I haven't given up yet. Fingers crossed!

[Image: A personalized to-do list bigo card with two marked square; one of them is the free space]

Finish Requests: Just a couple of EEnE ficlet requests, one from Tumblr and the other from FFN. Technically I have another request waiting on me from Tumblr, but it's covered by the "Write Rung/Skids" square. This square I specifically put down because I was letting these two requests gather dust.

So, yeah, I haven't gotten as much of the card done this week as I'd have liked, but at least it's largely because I've been taking care of other stuff. Or have been tired from taking care of other stuff. I made an acceptable amount of progress on my room and even got a mattress and boxspring dragged in that I wasn't going to bother with for lack of space. The floor wasn't as cozy as I remember, though, so I grit my teeth and am bearing it. It's pretty comfy, I admit. In addition to cleaning up and reorganizing and getting rid of stuff, I put together a bunch of stuff to do a joint yard sale with my sister-in-law, which we held today. I also found some items I've been meaning to hawk off online; gonna be getting to that soon-ish.

Also, I found a roach in my room *shudder* Only one (so far...) but it's enough to make me miss being covered in ants.

Oh, quick little fun fact to finish off: Due to the half-completed state of organization I knew I was going to be leaving my room in, I knew that my craft box was gonna end up with stuff piled on top of it Thus, I made sure to leave aside all the yarn I would need for making my Magikarp bag. Y'know what I didn't leave aside? A single freaking crochet hook. Go on, laugh. It's what I've been trying to do anyway.

Or, well, kinda. Since this month ends on a Friday, Fridays will be bingo update days. Since I only got my card put together late yesterday and slept in then worked a full day today, I don't actually have any progress to report. But I did want to keep the habit of making these update posts, so. Here we are.

How are you doing, flist? Any plans for the weekend?

Double bingo, in fact!

Just about let Use Brownie Mix slide again, until it hit me that I could get the double, haha. So, quick rundowns of the latest marks:

Draw Otters )

Use Brownie Mix )

Write 1k Per Week )

I was thinking of saying a bit about the squares I'm most disappointed to have missed, but I think I'll save it for another post. This post is about victory, whoopwhoop! One thing I will add is that I definitely liked doing weekly update posts this month and so I'll be doing that again next time. New card will be up tomorrow, naturally; I'm sure you're all on the very edges of your seats.

Not a whole lot to show for this week, but I did get some stuff done!

Finish a WIP )

Write a Review )

Work on Vampire Thing )

As you can probably guess, I've got my eye on that Draw Otters square to finish off the center vertical line; I'm behind on that anyway. I'm thinking of doctoring that square for next month, something to keep me on my toes. In the meantime, I've still got my eye on some other squares, of course. I'm thinking of actually laying off the Magikarp bag, which I've not got much of a start on despite my intentions, as I've got a little over a week near the start of next month off work and I think that would be a good time to work on it and figure out what's been holding me back.

Not much to show in the way of marks since last week, just the "Practice Crochet" square. Nothing fancy, really, just asserting my dominance over a few stitches. Which is what practice is, I suppose. I really wish I'd earned more marks even if only so the pattern of my current marks being ever so slightly off wouldn't be bugging me so much...

Meanwhile, I'm working on a few others still. Looking forward to hitting that "1k Per Week" as I almost regretted it after posting the card. I decided that I'm just gonna go ahead and do a positive review after all, so I thiiink I'll be hitting "Write a Review" at last; anyone interested in reading what I turn out, if so? Also got a crosshairs on that "Mark Two Old Squares" but don't wanna jinx it, so I'll say no more ;>>

All in all, while I intend to tour the board, I'm thinking that my best chances of bingo are the bottom horizontal, top horizontal, center vertical or left-to-right diagonal. Fingers crossed for getting more than one!

This time with actual progress to report! A couple squares I've marked, namely "Practice Coding" and "Read Comics", are technically works in progress in that I'm still intending to do more practice and reading. Something I'd like to be better about, however, is not dropping something after putting in enough effort to mark a square. Thus, the marks. And speaking of this week's marks:

Practice Coding )

Read Comics )

Try a New Recipe )

Three Squares in a Week )

So, that's it for now. Not too bad, I don't think. I am, of course, working on some other squares-- "Write 1k Per Week" being probably the most obvious. I'm striving for "Write Whring" and "Write RungSkids" as part of that as well as for their own sakes, but I don't intend to mark those unless/until I've actually produced a completed work. "Work on Vampire Thing" I'll be getting around to before too much longer, I hope. I've been negligent with that one. We'll see if I've managed any of them by next week!
dustbunny105: (Default)
No progress just yet, as suspected; this is really just to kick off the habit of updating and thus keeping myself accountable. Mostly to myself. Anyway, I'm looking to get the jump on a few squares starting tomorrow, since it's a day off work. I guess I could've started today, since it's a short shift (gonna leave soon for the much-dreaded bus bus ride) but I felt like giving myself an express time to do absolutely nothing of particular value. Thus, my day up until now has consisted of a brief workout and shower (which I guess counts as something of value, actually, oops), meandering about on Tumblr and half-watching let's plays on YouTube. Assuming no problems at work (fingers crossed) and a good night's rest (toes crossed also), I look to be both relaxed and pumped for meeting productivity head-on tomorrow.
dustbunny105: (Default)
todolist And here we have my August card! A lot of older things making a reappearance, a few new things and also some replacements, which I guess are in between. Those keeping score at home may have noticed that I've dropped the "Finish Requests" square; it has been replaced by the "Write Rung/Skids" square because that is more immediately pleasing to me (favorite Transformers ship at the moment) and because it stresses me out less. The request in question was actually a favor to me over on Tumblr when I reblogged one of those prompt memes and didn't get a response that I liked (though I at least finished the other one). It ended up coming at a bad time, though, and so it's been shunted further and further down the priority list. I've also functionally replaced "Edit WIPs" with "Finish a WIP" to give myself some extra structure and a more concrete goal. Now, onto some of the brand-spanking-new squares. I mentioned in my last post that I've had some ideas about how to freshen the card up and shake my procrastination blues and the new squares reflect one of those ideas. As I said in that post, I've fallen into the habit of putting things off; I hem and haw for a good chunk of the month, getting only a few things done along the way, and then scrape out a bingo in the last few days. It's not a good system; I still get the feeling of accomplishment of finishing a line, but I feel like a failure up until then. Driving myself to the brink of self-disappointment does not actually make for a good trade-off for that aforementioned feeling of accomplishment, however. Uuunfortunately, for someone who responds better to a carrot than a stick, that doesn't give me the extra incentive to, y'know, not do that again. So! Two of my new squares-- namely "Write 1k Per Week" and "Three Squares in a Week"-- are time-limited in some sense. I meant to include a square for specifically getting something done early in the month, but forgot. Oops. Next time, I guess! One of the other new squares-- "Mark Two Old Squares"-- is to give me added incentive to get to the things I've been leaving to languish. It does not apply to recurring squares (that is, the squares I've been reusing instead of just rolling over). I've got an idea of at least one square I intend to hit on the road to this one, I tell you what. My last idea was to do occasional updates on my progress throughout the month. I'm considering every Wednesday, since this month ends on a Wednesday, but this Wednesday isn't too far... Granted, that could give me some added incentive too. Time limits don't always do it for me, but when they do, they do. So, I guess we'll see if and how I respond to these new ways of doing things :D

Hal is giving me issues. Will edit this post with my latest bingo finish asap (I know you're all on the edges of your seats).

Not a very busy month where the card is concerned. For one thing, work has been wearing me down. Not even in an "I'm always working" sense; it's just got me stressed to the point that I barely care about my free time. Or doing things with my free time. Dunno why, it's not really been worse than usual for most of the month... Anyway, I did get some other stuff done that I couldn't claim on the card, so at least I haven't been as useless as this makes me seem, haha. One important thing I've noticed these last handful of months is that even though I still enjoy doing the cards, the novelty is wearing off. Thus, procrastination is creeping out of the shadows. I think my early bingo in February may have tripped me in the long run, too, in that regard; there's that perfectionist defeatist sense of "I can't measure up so why bother?" I've had some thoughts on how to get around this latest lack of bothering, which I'll get into when I post my next card. For now, a quick rundown of the few squares I achieved.

Got some mixed feelings about my finished card this month, due mostly to that diagonal line I was so keen to get. In order to get that bit out of the way, I'm gonna break my usual patterns and talk about that line first and then move on to the other squares.

So, that line. Awesome line and I wish I could feel awesome about having hit it but I can't. See, the thing is, I did not successfully make the things in question-- namely, clay faction sigil charms that I planned to make into key chains, some kind of jewelry or possibly magnets. Because I'm ridiculous, I had it all set in my mind that I would sit down and make all of these things at a go. It, in fact, only occurs to me in hindsight that I did not need to play it like that; I could have done one charm a day or something and probably should have. But, well, here we are.

I took advantage of a day off when I wasn't feeling too awful, sat down and painstakingly sculpted out each charm, giving myself a headache and straining my shoulders and back and neck. I went through more attempts than I bothered counting. The completed sculpts went into the oven and came out ruined. I was so disheartened that I turned my attention to other squares, intending to come back to that line. If I hadn't grouped all the squares together in my head, I probably would have done so sooner than I did-- it's easier to say to yourself that you're going to sit and do one thing than four things, you know? Anyway, I finally had another go and this time I didn't even make it to the baking stage. Nothing looked right. Again disheartened, I threw my hands up and figured, fine, I'll try again another day. That third attempt didn't even come.

Why, then, have I marked the squares? Because and only because I am wary, if not outright concerned, of teaching myself that the trials and errors of a project don't matter. My first sculpts were hours worth of labor, I worked hard and turned out something that looked good to start with. I took note of the mistakes I made at the time and of what I learned in my short-lived success. I did not do nothing. I just wish I felt like I really and truly had accomplished something, you know what I mean?

Anyway, moving on to the rest:

Aaand that's it for this month. In addition to my disappointment with the diagonal line, I'm frustrated with myself for not hitting that bottom horizontal. I came so close, but the writer's block I mentioned smacked me down. I have a rough draft of the last fic I need to do and the notes for a review of a comic I read last month sitting in my documents, but neither are enough to fulfill the necessary squares. Speaking of unfulfilled squares, if someone could, like, randomly comment and/or send me messages next month demanding an update on the progress of that Magikarp bag, I think that may be the only thing that will get it done at this point....

And here we are, my bingo card for June! I did indeed drop the Practice Sewing square, sad as I am to see it go. I also dropped the Scult square in favor of more specific squares As I suggested in my last post, I did indeed decide to make myself some Transformers sigil stuff, though I haven't decided just what they're going to be. Speaking of those new squares, HOW ABOUT THAT LEFT-TO-RIGHT DIAGONAL LINE, HUH?? I daresay I'll be going for a specific line this month and that I know which one it'll be...
