You mean to tell me that Pat Quinn signed same-sex marriage into Illinois law on the twentieth of November-- read: MY BIRTHDAY-- and I'm just now finding out about it? Ffs, I was just grumbling about the feet-dragging, like, three days ago. Wtf, self??

Well, anyway: WOO-HOO, ILLINOIS!♥!

I would have liked it if we'd made at least the top fifteen, but at least we finally got there!

Because I know that you've all missed seeing me ramble about random, unimportant stuff. Sorry to have deprived you for so long.

Point the First: Man, the weirdos we get at Walmart. I don't talk about them too much since I could technically be counted among their number, but. You guys. This dude I saw yesterday, omg. I didn't even see him before I smelled him. That isn't too terribly unusual on its own-- half the time it's like The Attack of the Heavily-Perfumed People at work; I never even laid eyes on whoever had me gagging a few nights ago. This guy, though? Smelled like weed. A lot of weed. That isn't too terribly unusual on its own either. And he had the general look of someone who comes into Walmart smelling like weed-- bloodshot eyes, vacant grin, a weave to his walk and the more I think about it, the less sure I am that he nodded in greeting as he passed, because he kinda looked like he might just lay down for a nap at any minute. But what really stood out about this guy was his t-shirt. His D.A.R.E. t-shirt. Yes. You may be proud to know that I kept a straight face.

Point the Second: I need to get, like, a personal trainer for writing. I have ideas, I even have motivation, but somehow I just never get anything done. Every time I sit to work on something, I get this vague itchy feeling down the back of my neck and across my shoulder blades and suddenly it's more important to check my email for the fifth time in three minutes just in case. Meanwhile, the ideas form and reform in my head, making the process feel like more and more work as I become filled with the misleading sense that I did this part already. Ugh, why can't the words just appear on the page??

Point the Third: To end an elated note, YAY, HAWKS! I'm still feeling the disappointment from not being able to properly celebrate in Chicago. They had to shut down streets from all the partying going on. Not that I probably would have taken part-- as a short person, I'm pretty wary of large, tight crowds-- but I still would have been surrounded on all sides by people who, y'know, give a second snot. Also, fireworks! I love fireworks!

“Nurse Chapel is a beloved [Trek] character,” says Orci. “Even before the first movie came out, a lot of online chatter was, ‘Is Nurse Chapel gonna be there?!’”

Alas, although we hear Dr. McCoy (Karl Urban) say “Nurse Chapel” in 2009’s Star Trek, we never officially saw Christine Chapel — and she’s still MIA in Into Darkness. Instead, Carol Marcus tells Kirk that she learned of his reputation as a ladies man from her friend Christine Chapel, who has become a nurse since her romantic encounter with him — which he does not recall.

“We just figured that would be a great reference, and we loved that Kirk didn't remember her,” says Orci. “It’s an in-joke that also speaks volumes about his character when it comes to women. That’s why we used it.”

Wow.

So, Chapel is reduced to a forgotten conquest and these people don't know Kirk from Adam.

Is there anything at all about this movie that should make me want to see it?

For the second time in two days! Whoo! Now being able to sit in my own room and whine about my troubles at my own leisure, I present to you, Hal and Al's Harrowing Adventure! (or, HAHA!)

Cut because I'm long-winded )

That tale's been told, on to miscellaneous pet news:

I've talked before about my snake, Isis, and how very much she loves to escape her tank and hide out for however long it take us to find her again. I last posted about finding her hiding in a closet in mid-December. What I failed to update about two weeks later was that she escaped again. I bring this up now because we found her two days ago. Yes, really. She was a few houses down in my brother's friends' yard. Yes, really. She's home and doing well now-- under much stricter surveillance and in a much more heavily reinforced tank, as you can imagine-- although we weren't sure what to think when she was first found. She hasn't eaten the rat we got her, but it's always been her habit to let her food hang out for a day or two before eating it, so I'm not sure whether that's something to worry about.

I don't know what the deal is, but Gremlin has been really aggressive lately. I first noticed it in how she treats the stray tom that hangs around on our steps, and that didn't surprise me too much; she has a lot of feelings about new animals on her territory. However, I've also noticed that she's been taking swipes at Surrey and Scamp when they've done nothing to provoke her except walk past her. Not to say this behavior is entirely out of her norm, but she's been doing it far more often than usual. There have been no problems between her and us people, though, aside from her occasional weird cat moods. I'm not sure what to think of it.

To close: I GOT NEW HAMSTERS! I wasn't sure I wanted to get more hamsters after Theo, even though I knew I wanted some kind of small and probably furry animal, but I couldn't resist after seeing them at the pet shop. They're a couple of robo hamsters I've named Nut and Bolt. Tiny little guys, and hard to hold onto, but I look forward to hand-training them. I was planning to get a scorpion as well while I was there, but decided against it after talking with the salesman. Tatiana's old tank isn't as suitable as I'd thought it would be, especially for an emperor in a house with cats. Maybe next time, when I'm better prepared for it.

Finishing this post off on a fangirling note: Has anyone else seen the leaked first episode of Legend of Korra? OMG, CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS SHOW.
