Or, well, kinda. Since this month ends on a Friday, Fridays will be bingo update days. Since I only got my card put together late yesterday and slept in then worked a full day today, I don't actually have any progress to report. But I did want to keep the habit of making these update posts, so. Here we are.

How are you doing, flist? Any plans for the weekend?

Here's my card for September! I was going to talk a bit about the new and improved squares but I have a splitting headache, so.

Bingo!

Double bingo, in fact!

[Image: A personalized "to-do list" bingo card with almost half of the squares marked. The top horizontal and center vertical lines are both complete.]

Just about let Use Brownie Mix slide again, until it hit me that I could get the double, haha. So, quick rundowns of the latest marks:

Draw Otters )

Use Brownie Mix )

Write 1k Per Week )

I was thinking of saying a bit about the squares I'm most disappointed to have missed, but I think I'll save it for another post. This post is about victory, whoopwhoop! One thing I will add is that I definitely liked doing weekly update posts this month and so I'll be doing that again next time. New card will be up tomorrow, naturally; I'm sure you're all on the very edges of your seats.

Not a whole lot to show for this week, but I did get some stuff done!

Finish a WIP )

Write a Review )

Work on Vampire Thing )

As you can probably guess, I've got my eye on that Draw Otters square to finish off the center vertical line; I'm behind on that anyway. I'm thinking of doctoring that square for next month, something to keep me on my toes. In the meantime, I've still got my eye on some other squares, of course. I'm thinking of actually laying off the Magikarp bag, which I've not got much of a start on despite my intentions, as I've got a little over a week near the start of next month off work and I think that would be a good time to work on it and figure out what's been holding me back.

Not much to show in the way of marks since last week, just the "Practice Crochet" square. Nothing fancy, really, just asserting my dominance over a few stitches. Which is what practice is, I suppose. I really wish I'd earned more marks even if only so the pattern of my current marks being ever so slightly off wouldn't be bugging me so much...

Meanwhile, I'm working on a few others still. Looking forward to hitting that "1k Per Week" as I almost regretted it after posting the card. I decided that I'm just gonna go ahead and do a positive review after all, so I thiiink I'll be hitting "Write a Review" at last; anyone interested in reading what I turn out, if so? Also got a crosshairs on that "Mark Two Old Squares" but don't wanna jinx it, so I'll say no more ;>>

All in all, while I intend to tour the board, I'm thinking that my best chances of bingo are the bottom horizontal, top horizontal, center vertical or left-to-right diagonal. Fingers crossed for getting more than one!

This time with actual progress to report! A couple squares I've marked, namely "Practice Coding" and "Read Comics", are technically works in progress in that I'm still intending to do more practice and reading. Something I'd like to be better about, however, is not dropping something after putting in enough effort to mark a square. Thus, the marks. And speaking of this week's marks:

Practice Coding )

Read Comics )

Try a New Recipe )

Three Squares in a Week )

So, that's it for now. Not too bad, I don't think. I am, of course, working on some other squares-- "Write 1k Per Week" being probably the most obvious. I'm striving for "Write Whring" and "Write RungSkids" as part of that as well as for their own sakes, but I don't intend to mark those unless/until I've actually produced a completed work. "Work on Vampire Thing" I'll be getting around to before too much longer, I hope. I've been negligent with that one. We'll see if I've managed any of them by next week!
dustbunny105: (Default)
No progress just yet, as suspected; this is really just to kick off the habit of updating and thus keeping myself accountable. Mostly to myself. Anyway, I'm looking to get the jump on a few squares starting tomorrow, since it's a day off work. I guess I could've started today, since it's a short shift (gonna leave soon for the much-dreaded bus bus ride) but I felt like giving myself an express time to do absolutely nothing of particular value. Thus, my day up until now has consisted of a brief workout and shower (which I guess counts as something of value, actually, oops), meandering about on Tumblr and half-watching let's plays on YouTube. Assuming no problems at work (fingers crossed) and a good night's rest (toes crossed also), I look to be both relaxed and pumped for meeting productivity head-on tomorrow.
dustbunny105: (Default)
todolist And here we have my August card! A lot of older things making a reappearance, a few new things and also some replacements, which I guess are in between. Those keeping score at home may have noticed that I've dropped the "Finish Requests" square; it has been replaced by the "Write Rung/Skids" square because that is more immediately pleasing to me (favorite Transformers ship at the moment) and because it stresses me out less. The request in question was actually a favor to me over on Tumblr when I reblogged one of those prompt memes and didn't get a response that I liked (though I at least finished the other one). It ended up coming at a bad time, though, and so it's been shunted further and further down the priority list. I've also functionally replaced "Edit WIPs" with "Finish a WIP" to give myself some extra structure and a more concrete goal. Now, onto some of the brand-spanking-new squares. I mentioned in my last post that I've had some ideas about how to freshen the card up and shake my procrastination blues and the new squares reflect one of those ideas. As I said in that post, I've fallen into the habit of putting things off; I hem and haw for a good chunk of the month, getting only a few things done along the way, and then scrape out a bingo in the last few days. It's not a good system; I still get the feeling of accomplishment of finishing a line, but I feel like a failure up until then. Driving myself to the brink of self-disappointment does not actually make for a good trade-off for that aforementioned feeling of accomplishment, however. Uuunfortunately, for someone who responds better to a carrot than a stick, that doesn't give me the extra incentive to, y'know, not do that again. So! Two of my new squares-- namely "Write 1k Per Week" and "Three Squares in a Week"-- are time-limited in some sense. I meant to include a square for specifically getting something done early in the month, but forgot. Oops. Next time, I guess! One of the other new squares-- "Mark Two Old Squares"-- is to give me added incentive to get to the things I've been leaving to languish. It does not apply to recurring squares (that is, the squares I've been reusing instead of just rolling over). I've got an idea of at least one square I intend to hit on the road to this one, I tell you what. My last idea was to do occasional updates on my progress throughout the month. I'm considering every Wednesday, since this month ends on a Wednesday, but this Wednesday isn't too far... Granted, that could give me some added incentive too. Time limits don't always do it for me, but when they do, they do. So, I guess we'll see if and how I respond to these new ways of doing things :D

Not a very busy month where the card is concerned. For one thing, work has been wearing me down. Not even in an "I'm always working" sense; it's just got me stressed to the point that I barely care about my free time. Or doing things with my free time. Dunno why, it's not really been worse than usual for most of the month... Anyway, I did get some other stuff done that I couldn't claim on the card, so at least I haven't been as useless as this makes me seem, haha. One important thing I've noticed these last handful of months is that even though I still enjoy doing the cards, the novelty is wearing off. Thus, procrastination is creeping out of the shadows. I think my early bingo in February may have tripped me in the long run, too, in that regard; there's that perfectionist defeatist sense of "I can't measure up so why bother?" I've had some thoughts on how to get around this latest lack of bothering, which I'll get into when I post my next card. For now, a quick rundown of the few squares I achieved.

Got some mixed feelings about my finished card this month, due mostly to that diagonal line I was so keen to get. In order to get that bit out of the way, I'm gonna break my usual patterns and talk about that line first and then move on to the other squares.

So, that line. Awesome line and I wish I could feel awesome about having hit it but I can't. See, the thing is, I did not successfully make the things in question-- namely, clay faction sigil charms that I planned to make into key chains, some kind of jewelry or possibly magnets. Because I'm ridiculous, I had it all set in my mind that I would sit down and make all of these things at a go. It, in fact, only occurs to me in hindsight that I did not need to play it like that; I could have done one charm a day or something and probably should have. But, well, here we are.

I took advantage of a day off when I wasn't feeling too awful, sat down and painstakingly sculpted out each charm, giving myself a headache and straining my shoulders and back and neck. I went through more attempts than I bothered counting. The completed sculpts went into the oven and came out ruined. I was so disheartened that I turned my attention to other squares, intending to come back to that line. If I hadn't grouped all the squares together in my head, I probably would have done so sooner than I did-- it's easier to say to yourself that you're going to sit and do one thing than four things, you know? Anyway, I finally had another go and this time I didn't even make it to the baking stage. Nothing looked right. Again disheartened, I threw my hands up and figured, fine, I'll try again another day. That third attempt didn't even come.

Why, then, have I marked the squares? Because and only because I am wary, if not outright concerned, of teaching myself that the trials and errors of a project don't matter. My first sculpts were hours worth of labor, I worked hard and turned out something that looked good to start with. I took note of the mistakes I made at the time and of what I learned in my short-lived success. I did not do nothing. I just wish I felt like I really and truly had accomplished something, you know what I mean?

Anyway, moving on to the rest:

Aaand that's it for this month. In addition to my disappointment with the diagonal line, I'm frustrated with myself for not hitting that bottom horizontal. I came so close, but the writer's block I mentioned smacked me down. I have a rough draft of the last fic I need to do and the notes for a review of a comic I read last month sitting in my documents, but neither are enough to fulfill the necessary squares. Speaking of unfulfilled squares, if someone could, like, randomly comment and/or send me messages next month demanding an update on the progress of that Magikarp bag, I think that may be the only thing that will get it done at this point....

And here we are, my bingo card for June! I did indeed drop the Practice Sewing square, sad as I am to see it go. I also dropped the Scult square in favor of more specific squares As I suggested in my last post, I did indeed decide to make myself some Transformers sigil stuff, though I haven't decided just what they're going to be. Speaking of those new squares, HOW ABOUT THAT LEFT-TO-RIGHT DIAGONAL LINE, HUH?? I daresay I'll be going for a specific line this month and that I know which one it'll be...

Not much to show for myself this month, as you can see. I'm gonna go ahead and blame work again; still with the full-time hours, yeesh @_@ That said, I do have to hawk the bingo card again as a way to feel accomplished when runnin gon fumes. Barren as it may be, I still managed my measly line by taking a deep breath, looking over the card and figuring out where I would best be able to score, whether I'd be happy with the line in question, etc. And while I would have liked to get other stuff done, of course, having that line helps me feel what I did manage to accomplish, you know what I'm saying? It's an added victory that takes away the sting of the other failures.

Speaking of failures, man, none of them have me gritting my teeth more than the Magikarp bag and the "Finish Requests" square. I mentioned before I at least started the bag-- turns out that I screwed up :D So much for having a starting point. As for the requests suare, I came so close to hitting that one. Unfortunately, one of the requests in question was for a ship in an ongoing comic, the latest issue of which dropped while I was writing and shook up my perception of the characters involved; thus I was unable to finish. Oh, the shame of it...

Anyway! On to what I did get done:

Work on Vampire Thing: Sadly, nothing much tangible to show for it. Did some research, settled on some character names. I did play around with a few scenes, but nothing solid enough to keep. For this square next month, I'm going to try using some new characters. The point of the thing in my mind is that it's a large scale ensamble and the stories cycle through characters, but I've done very little writing outside of the first handful of them. The research I did this month will be foundation for that.

Read Comics: For this square I read Batman: Mr Freeze, JLA: World Without Grown-ups, The Amazing Spider-Man: The Short Halloween and What If... Storm of the X-Men had Remained a Thief? I thought about using one of these to fulfill the "Write a Review" square, but couldn't find the energy to begin with and then, uh. Well, then I plain forgot about it ;>> Ahem. I might still go ahead and do that, actually.

Practice Sewing: Some day, I'd like hitting this square to mean I turned out something of value. As it happens, with my sewing machine still out of commission, all it means is I did some more reading and fixed the pocket on my work vest. I think I may go ahead and drop this square until the sewing machine issue is corrected.

Sculpt: Again, mostly playing around. I've been into Transformers lately-- the IDW comics in particular, though I've been feeling my childhood love for Beast Wars too-- and I want to make myself some faction badges or maybe jewelry. The Autobot and Decepticon symbols are simple enough, but I really want the Maximal and Predacon symbols and I've found those rather more frustrating. Nothing I practiced turned out badly, though, so maybe that'll be its own square next time.

Post a Picspam: I've been wanting to do a picspam/appreciation post in general for some time now. I had a few concepts in mind when I made this square, but nothing solid. I actually ended up going with something else entirely, inspired by a scene in the latest issue of Transformers: More than Meets the Eye. So at least that issue was good for something other than stalling my thoughts on my own OT-frikkin'-P... Yes, indeed, it was this same issue that stopped me at the finish line on the "Finish Requests" square. Anyway. I initially thought the post the scene inspired was going to be only two images and thus I wouldn't have counted it for this square, but as I went about going to find the other image I needed, I realized I was forgetting a few relevant scenes. It still didn't end up terribly long, but it was enough that I'm happy to count it.

Crosspost Fics: Kiiinda cheating here. I still have crossposting to do, but I finally got around to moving some drabbles and ficlets previously exclusive to my Ed, Edd n Eddy Tumblr. As I've been meaning to do that longer than I've been meaning to crosspost anything else that still needs crossposting, I'm counting it.

Yeah, not too terribly busy of a month for me (aside from actual work, which has taken to giving me full time hours on part time pay), but the bingo card actually helps. Some of these, I admit, I squeaked by on. But then I remember, y'know, I do this for fun. And whereas I might otherwise have glossed over how much I managed to accomplish, here I have it laid out in front of me that I did do stuff that I wanted to do, even if I didn't do all of it. So, thank you, bingo cards, for helping me feel like less of a failure. I'm sure it'll last at least as long as it takes me to fail to achieve a bingo... Now, as for these squares:

A lot more pleased than if I was keeping track any other way I'ev tried, honestly. As I have before, I shall again recommend the bingo cards for at least a trial run :D

So, wow, slow month. In my defense, I was working mostly full time hours at work the past few weeks (still for part time pay, natch) and that skewed my usualtime management. Out of everything, I'm most pissed off that I failed the Magikarp bag square again. I did finally start, I just didn't get very far orz

As for what I did get:

Crosspost Fics: An oldie but a goodie, eh? In this case, I achieved the square by crossposting all my Eddy Appreciation Week and Femslash February fics to FFN and AO3. This square will be returning next month with yet another meaning, namely crossposting these same fics to LJ and DW and nosing around for anything else I've missed. Once all is said and done, perhaps I'll have learned my lesson about crossposting as I go along.

Finish Blanket: This refers to a c2c blanket that I was working on as a gift for a friend. It came out pretty dang awesome, tbh. I have a couple pictures of it which I'll be posting when I get a chance to find upload them.

Write Fanfic: For this square, I really just wanted to motivate myself to write something this month after burning out a bit last month. I hit this square this some ficlet requests over on Tumblr.

Write Something Original: Also primarily a "don't stop now!" square. For this, I did some more work on my vampire thing. It ended up mostly being stuff that won't work in the long run, but which I found helpful for developing for developing the characters.

Read Comics: This is in the same vein as the Read a Book square. I have a crapton of comics that I keep meaning to read, but, well. I specifically went with "Comics" instead of "A Comisc" because there are a good deal more of them than of the books and they take a good deal less time to read. I read a couple trades and a handful of floppies to fulfill this square.

Improve Spanish: At last! I may not have improved by much, but I have improve, dadjimmit. This mark is mostly about my improved confidence in speaking, but I think that's fairly important and so I'm counting it. This square will still, of course, be making a return.

Behold, my card for March!

Going over the car square by square didn't do much for me last time, so I'll skip it this time. If anyone is curious about any of the squares, of course, I'm open to questions! Overview of this month's square: I've forgone writing squares almost entirely and the two that made it onto the board are vague, vague, vague. That's because I wore myself out writing last month (not just for the card, but for FemFeb in general) and would like to give myself a break on that, but I don't want to drop writing as a priority altogether. I've tried to include a range of things, kinda throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks, and I think I have more specific squares this time around than I had last time. I also tried to have more long-term plans in mind for some squares, not that it comes across that well with the way these are worded, lol. I also took a step away from hobby squares and included almost-chores; we'll se how that turns out.

So, here's my February bingo card as of today:

todolist

Yep, after all the excitement of getting a line way early, I was only able to complete one more. And also get really, teeth-grindingly close to another one that I thought was a shoe-in. Gooo figure. I'm still pleased that I managed to get two lines down, don't get me wrong, but I can't help agonizing over not only that diagonal I just missed, but how near I came to blacking out the board. ETA: HOLD THE PHONE. Pft, listen to me go on about only getting one more square when I got two. hat does make me feel better even if I'm still pulling my hair out over that diagonal and how close I came to a blackout.

So, wow. I actually meant to post this yesterday, but:

todolist

Yes, I hit a bingo! I kept double-checking, think, no, surely not already-- and yet! I wasn't completely sure what I would do if I hit a bingo before the month was out, make a new card or keep going for another bingo with the card I have. Now that the situation is upon me, I've decided on the latter option. Why? Because I'm really close to some of the other lines and I don't want to lose them.

So, general reflections this time around. Not loading the card with the ships I wanted to do for FemFeb was very much the right call as far as creative activity off the card. I've written and posted something every day so far, and so of course I've been writing ships that aren't squares. Knowing that I had a full range of options not on the card also helped me feel less trapped in general when it came time to pick a ship and write. I spent more time than I care to admit stressing over the ships that made it onto the card before realizing, wait, I don't have to write just those! So, yeah, good call all around on that, as I feel accomplished from all quarters.

Now, onto the squares marked thus far:
